Free diving and swimming with orcas in Norway

In November, the fjords of Northern Norway are filled out with herring, and then thousands of shoals are followed by fish-eating orcas and humpbacks. Norway is the best place in the world to swim with orcas in clear water and see dozens of animals in one dive.
During the trip we will live and go out into the ocean on our own yacht. This will give us two main advantages:
  1. Increase of our sailing radius. If whales go to another region different from the intended location, we will follow them.
  2. The yacht has a kitchen, that is, you can cook yourself. Norway is an expensive country and prices in the restaurants are very high. Having our own kitchen will help you significantly save on food.
Pay attention: this trip involves snorkeling or free diving, but not scuba diving – diving equipment can scare off killer whales. You don't need to have special skills to join our expedition.

Highlights
  • Huge shoals of herring
  • Killer whales, and if you're lucky – a lot of killer whales :)

16-23, November 2025

Program may be adjusted due to weather conditions. If the weather allows, we go to ocean to search for orcas every day. If not, we stay on land.
Day 1
The most convenient way to get to Skjervoy is by ferry from Tromsø, but you can also fly to Sørkjosen Airport and get there by taxi or bus.

Our yacht will be ready for check-in after 19:00, after which you will have an introductory briefing on the safety of swimming with killer whales and a gear check.

Welcome to the happiest country in the world! No joke: in 2017, Norway took first place in the UN World Happiness Report. Fishing villages, northern lights and inaccessible cliffs. At the piers, local fishermen sell freshly caught shrimp, wolffish, halibut, sea bass, herring, and this has been going on for centuries.

Skjervoy is a Norwegian commune. This has nothing to do with communism, this is how regions or municipalities are called in Norway. The name is formed by combining the words "rocky land" and "island".

Wild nature is always about contrasts, and Northern Norway is no exception. The most sparsely populated region and at the same time the center of ecotourism. Locals lead a healthy lifestyle, ski and snowboard, and in the summer they go to the mountains. Here, there are long and bright polar days in the summer, and equally long polar nights in the winter.
Day 2-6
We have 5 sailing days ahead. We will set out to sea at first light. We will search for cetaceans and explore the fjords. Freediving with orcas. The weather in Northern Norway is incredibly changeable. It is difficult to predict tomorrow, so plans can change at any time. The presence of animals also has a big impact.

If the sky is clear, we will go to photograph the northern lights in the evening. In case of bad weather, we will have to stay in the port and spend the day exploring the surrounding area.
Day 7
We leave one day in reserve in case of bad weather or if it becomes necessary to move to another region – the orcas can follow the herring and go to another fjord.
Day 8
We finish our program in Skjervoy. Check out from the yacht at 10:00. If your ferry/transfer is later, you can leave your bags with us and walk around the area.
