Whale watching and dolphin snorkeling in Azores
Azores is one of the best places in the world to observe the whales in their natural habitat. We will stay at the capital of Azores, Ponta Delgada, and when the weather allows we will go out to the ocean to observe whales and swim with dolphins.
Azores is the homeplace to several cetacean species. The most famous inhabitant of local waters, sperm whale, and also at least 4 species of dolphins can be observed here year-round. Each May, the great show takes place in Azores - the baleen whales come to feed in surrounding waters, following their annual migration routes. May is the perfect time to see three largest animals in the world - blue whales, fin whales and sei whales. Less likely but still possible - orcas, false orcas, humpbacks, pilot whales, bryde's whales, beaked whales. There is no other place in the world where you can meet such a great diversity of cetaceans.
Ocean always brings surprises. Sometimes we see marlins, mola mola, mantas, mobulas, turtles and much more. Expect the unexpected!
When not chasing whales, we will explore spectacular San Miguel island, fully covered with greenery and flowers, walk along the narrow streets of Ponta Delgada, visit Lake of Seven towns and the famous abandoned hotel with stunning views of the surrounding area, take a dip into the ocean heated by lava in the bay Ferraria, have a dinner in the open air with food cooked in the very mouth of the volcano!
